Locusts and Wild Honey

Drum roll: “The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, Son of God” scrolls up across our screens. People gasp! History, politics, blasphemy and hope all rolled into one short statement. What would happen next? Cut to the action: a mighty palace? a giant spaceship? a speeding chariot? No. Some bloke eating locusts and wild honey out in the desert? Yes. People look slightly perplexed. This is the opening action of Mark’s gospel which we began last week and we will continue this week by looking at John the Baptist: who was he? what did he do? And why is he so important in the story of Jesus. 10am. Sunday. Just as John the Baptist used to say all those years ago: “Everybody’s Welcome Here!”
